HMP Woodhill is a core local prison housing both remand and sentenced prisoners of all categories. It is a core local establishment that serves courts across the Thames Valley Region as well as those located in Northamptonshire. It is part of the High Security Estate and has recently become a resettlement prison. The Education department works closely with prison colleagues to ensure the courses delivered are relevant to the prisoners’ complex needs, rehabilitation and resettlement. Courses include: English and Maths Functional Skills (Entry 1 – Level 2), ICT, Art, Food Safety, Health and Safety and a wide range of personal and social development courses. Vocational courses consist of Catering and Hospitality, Painting and Decorating and Kitchen Fitting and Tiling.
The education department believes the opportunities provided for their learners will help to address their offending behaviour and give them the skills to enhance their lives and gain employment on release. They encourage their learners to unlock and reach their potential. At HMP Woodhill, staff pride themselves on their team work. The staff encourage and inspire learners and this was reflected in their recent Ofsted inspection, with the department receiving a Grade 2, with elements close to Grade 1.
