Shelter Careers Event - Woman SpeakingDo you have what it takes to help transform the lives of offenders through rehabilitation? If you have strong communication skills, work well as part of a team and have some experience of giving support in housing, debt, employment or training then this may be an ideal Careers Event for you.

On 21st March 2018, Shelter are holding an Offender Resettlement Careers Event to recruit staff across an entire region. This is a unique opportunity to find out more about Shelter and the Offender Resettlement work they do, as well as being able to have a chat with some of their resettlement team. They are looking for exceptional candidates to join their Rehabilitation teams at a number of different establishments across Humberside, Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire. Previous experience of housing would be beneficial (although not essential for all vacancies). They currently have a wide range of opportunities on offer, including:

  • Peer Support Worker - Peer Support Workers support and train the peer and volunteer programmes within prison. They will also provide low level advice and support the Resettlement Team when required.
  • Bank Resettlement Staff - Shelter are looking to recruit a number of bank Resettlement staff to work on a sessional basis as and when cover is needed.
  • Resettlement Worker - Resettlement Workers will contribute to HMP Induction programme, working with Peers to identify prisoner needs, delivering immediate accommodation and finance, benefit and debt interventions and updating resettlement plans, as applicable.
  • Senior Resettlement Worker - A Senior Resettlement Worker will line manage, support and supervise a team of caseworkers and the delivery of TTG services. It may involve undertaking needs assessments, drawing up resettlement plans, liaising with external agencies and supporting clients.

What is going to happen on the Day?

The Careers Event is a fantastic opportunity to come along and find out more about working for Shelter. The day will be attended by members of Shelter’s resettlement team and the HR team who will provide more information about what each role entails and the vacancies they are looking for across the whole region. If you have any questions or concerns about working in Resettlement then this is an ideal opportunity to have those queries answered by sector experts. You will also be given the chance to see the working environment within a prison first-hand as you will be taken on a walking tour around HMP Hull.

If you are thinking about developing your career in Offender Resettlement, then this is the perfect chance to hear more about what that career may involve, what Shelter is like as an employer and start the initial application process.
