Do you have what it takes to help transform the lives of offenders through rehabilitation? If you have strong communication skills, work well as part of a team and have some experience of giving support in housing, debt, employment or training then this may be an ideal Careers Event for you.

On 28th June 2018, Shelter are holding an Offender Resettlement Careers Event to recruit staff across the whole of Northumbria. This is a unique opportunity to find out more about Shelter and the Offender Resettlement work they do, as well as being able to have a chat with some of their resettlement team. They are looking for exceptional candidates to join their Rehabilitation teams at different establishments across Northumbria. Previous experience of housing would be beneficial (although not essential for all vacancies). They are currently looking to recruit:

  • Bank Resettlement Staff - Shelter are looking to recruit a number of bank Resettlement staff to work on a sessional basis as and when cover is needed.
  • Resettlement Worker (based at HMP Northumberland) - Resettlement Workers will work with Service Users to deliver housing, finance and debt interventions in order to aid an individual’s resettlement as they prepare for release.

What is going to happen on the day?

Day with ShelterThe Careers Event is a fantastic opportunity to come along and find out more about working for Shelter. The day will be attended by members of Shelter’s resettlement team and the HR team who will provide more information about what each role entails and the vacancies they are currently looking for across the whole region. If you have any questions or concerns about working in Resettlement then this is an ideal opportunity to have those queries answered by sector experts. The day will finish with a group exercise which will be an opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills of the sector (this is an informal first step so there is no need to prepare anything).

If you are thinking about developing your career in Offender Resettlement, then this is the perfect chance to hear more about what that career may involve, what Shelter is like as an employer and start the initial application process.

About Shelter

Shelter is the UK's leading housing and homelessness charity. They have been changing lives since 1966 by providing safe, secure, affordable homes for those that need it most. They aim to transform rehabilitation and reduce reoffending. They deliver offender resettlement services in partnership with Sodexo and Purple Futures in areas across the north of England, including Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and more. They provide support, advice and legal services to aid ex-offenders with housing, financial concerns, employment, education and more on their release from prison to help them successfully reintegrate with society.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through their advice, support and legal services. And they campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to them for help.

About Offender Resettlement

Shelter VolunteersOffender Resettlement services are provided to ex-offenders on their release from prison to help them positively re-engage with society. On their release, ex-offenders are given limited support by the prison service. Many of them sadly have no home to return to, poor finances and no support network. These factors significantly increase their probability of falling into a cycle of reoffending.

Offender Resettlement aims to prevent this. Resettlement staff help and advise ex-offenders with housing issues, benefit claims, financial struggles, employment, education and much more. By providing individualised, tailored support to those leaving custody, Resettlement staff give the support necessary to help reduce reoffending and increase successful rehabilitation.
